Are you involved with any professional affiliations?
I am an online member of ACM.
Describe the job you have held in the past that was most gratifying.
The
job that was most gratifying was Systems Analyst. After voluntarily
stepping down as a Project Manager (due to teams merging) I was given a
mandate to inventory and standardize all the computer equipment in the
stores. I was provided minimal direction and supervision. I enjoyed
this because I was exposed to different technical challenges (and had
to figure out what to do) and also had to interface with the business
owners of the various devices. I enjoy making things better and more
supportable.
Describe your previous job experience.
My
career has been about adapting to various positions in an organization.
Not only has my career moved towards more responsibility, it has also
moved through different types of responsibility. What is not readily
apparent in my resume is that my changes in position were motivated by
providing the best value I could to my company at the time. When I was
asked to build and manage a team that supported multiple devices in
500+ remote locations, I took on the challenge and created a great team
that had zero attrition for the 5 years I managed them. When I was
asked to move over to a new area that was developing an internal web
application and work as a technical resource and also manage activities
for an off shore development team, I took on that assignment and the
application went on to become a backbone cost savings initiative. When
I was then asked to take on an architect role for the Merchandising
side of the house, I took on those new concepts and challenges and
succeeded in solving many issues.
I hope you see a pattern
emerging here. I am an adaptable person with the ability to learn new
things and incorporate them into my previous knowledge.
What I don't know, I tend to pick up quickly
Do you like working alone or in a team environment?
I
function well in either setting. I see the benefit in having multiple
eyes looking at something to make it better. I also am willing to make
decisions on my own if that is needed in a given scenario.
Do you like working in large groups?
I prefer smaller groups, but I function well with larger groups as well.
Everyone has a favorite class in college. What was yours?
Bioethics.
I guess I should have come up with a technical class since I am an IT
person, but the Bioethics class was interesting and stretched me out of
my comfort zone.
Have you taken any classes since college to bring your skills up to date?
I
have taken company provided classes (both classroom and electronic)
over the years. I also have a collection of books that I use to enhance
my knowledge.
How can you help our company be more profitable?
I am an adaptable person with the ability to learn new things and incorporate them into my previous knowledge.
What I don't know, I tend to pick up quickly.
This flexibility makes me an ideal person to lead or to be a team member.
Is there anything you would change about your college education?
I
would be just a full time student. Instead, I worked several jobs while
in school...sometimes holding as many as four at the same time.
Unfortunately I had to work.
Tell me how you would handle multiple projects in the job.
I
am not sure how to succinctly answer this question. I have never been
working on just one project in my whole career. So I would have to say
I would adapt as necessary.
Were you involved in any other activities during college?
Just working several jobs.
What did you like most about your last job?
I was given the opportunity to work on cost savings initiatives, primarily with platform virtualization.
What do you do for fun?
Golf, read, TV, movies, learn
What do you like to do when you are not at work?
Spend time with friends and family
What is your favorite TV program?
The Big Bang Theory, Bones
What was the best moment you had in college?
Graduation.
Why are you currently unemployed?
The company I worked for went out of business.
Why did you leave your last job?
The company went out of business.
Why have you held so many jobs in recent times?
I
held many positions at the same company. I moved around to gain breadth
of experience and to better serve the needs of the company.
